Introduction
IndiePeaks ("the App") is developed by Orlando Cossia Castiglioni. The App is built to work without collecting your personal data: it has no user accounts, no advertising, no third-party analytics, and no trackers. This policy explains what information the App uses, what leaves your device, and what does not.
Location
If you grant permission, the App uses your device's location while you are using it to sort resorts by distance and to show your position on the map. Your location is processed on your device only — it is never stored by the App and never transmitted to us. Location access is optional: the App works without it (you simply won't get distance sorting or your position on the map), and you can change the permission at any time in iOS Settings. Maps are displayed with Apple Maps, and map interactions are handled under Apple's privacy policy.
Arrival Reminders
Arrival Reminders are off by default. If you switch them on in Settings, the App asks for "Always" location access and registers geofences around nearby resorts, so it can offer to log a ski day when you arrive — including when the App is closed. iOS does the monitoring and simply wakes the App when you cross a boundary.
There is no continuous tracking, no location history, and no background logging. Turning the setting off removes the geofences. The App never asks for this permission at launch or during setup — only after you enable the feature.
Information Stored on Your Device
Your selected pass tier, favorites, and the visits you log are stored on your device. We have no user accounts and no database of users, and none of this information is ever sent to us.
iCloud Sync
If you are signed in to iCloud, your pass, favorites, and logged visits are also synced through Apple's CloudKit private database, in your own iCloud account, so that they stay in step across your devices.
This is storage Apple provides to you. It is tied to your Apple Account, and we cannot read, list, or receive any of it. Sync runs automatically whenever an iCloud account is present on the device; if there is none, the App works exactly the same and your data simply stays on that device. Settings shows the current sync status.
So that a change made on one device reaches the others promptly, the App registers with Apple Push Notification service to receive a silent message from CloudKit telling it that something changed. That message displays nothing and contains none of your content.
Deleting the App removes the copy on that device. To remove the synced copy, delete IndiePeaks' iCloud data from Settings ▸ [your name] ▸ iCloud ▸ Manage Account Storage. Separately, if you use iOS device backups, the App's local data may be included in your backup under Apple's terms, which you control.
Reporting Incorrect Information
Some of the resort information in the App is wrong — vertical drops, map pins, addresses, accepted passes. "Report Incorrect Info" on a resort's Mountain tab, and "Report a Problem" in Settings, let you tell us so.
This is the only feature that sends anything you wrote to us. It is entirely optional and it does nothing until you fill in the form and tap Send.
A report contains only what is on that form:
Which resort and which topic you picked
What the App currently displays for it
Your correction, and optionally a link and a note
The App's version number
That is all. Because the correction and note are text you type, please don't put personal information in them. Apart from that, a report carries no name, no email address, and nothing from your passes, visits, favorites, location, or settings. We do not learn who sent it, and we have no way to reply to you — if you want an answer, email the address at the bottom of this policy instead.
Reports travel through Apple's CloudKit to a database we control. Sending one requires that you be signed in to iCloud, because that is what lets the App send a report without asking you to create an account or hand over an address: Apple confirms to us that a real Apple Account sent it, and tells us nothing about which one. What reaches us is an anonymous identifier that is specific to this App and cannot be linked back to you, your Apple Account, or your other devices.
If you are offline when you tap Send, the report is held on your device and sent the next time you open the App. It is stored nowhere else in the meantime.
We read reports to correct the App's data, and delete them once the fix ships. We do not use them for anything else, and we share them with no one.
Network Requests
Almost everything the App shows is already inside it: the resort catalog and the bundled trail maps need no network at all. To show current conditions, the App makes requests to:
Apple WeatherKit, for weather and forecasts. Requests reference the resort's coordinates — not your location.
Open-Meteo (api.open-meteo.com), for snowfall, snow depth, and freezing level by elevation. Requests reference the resort's coordinates — not your location.
A lift and trail status file hosted on GitHub (raw.githubusercontent.com) that we publish, plus a small number of resorts' own public status feeds. Requests reference the resort — not you.
Apple CloudKit, for the iCloud sync described above.
As with any internet request, the servers involved receive your device's IP address as part of normal networking. The App sends them no identity, account, or location information. Nothing about you reaches us through any of them — the only information we ever receive is a report you choose to send, described in "Reporting Incorrect Information" above.
Tapping a resort's website, snow report, webcam, or road-conditions link opens that page in an in-app Safari view. Those are third-party sites, and their own privacy policies apply.
How Resort Information Is Collected
Lift and trail status, and the resort details in the App, come from publicly available resort websites and public data sources. We collect them on our own equipment — a small computer running on a schedule — and publish the results as static files that the App downloads.
That collection has nothing to do with you. It reads resort websites, never your device. It runs whether or not anyone is using the App, and it produces the same files for every user. It receives no request, no identifier, and no data from your device, and it stores nothing about you.
One consequence is worth stating plainly, because it works in your favor: since the App downloads a file we have already prepared, rather than contacting each resort itself, your device does not reveal to hundreds of ski resorts which mountains you are looking at.
Notifications
Powder alerts, blackout reminders, and arrival reminders are all planned and scheduled on your device. There is no push server and no remote alert path, so no notification content ever leaves your iPhone or iPad. They are off until you turn them on.
Analytics and Diagnostics
The App contains no analytics SDKs, advertising, or trackers. Diagnostic logging stays in your device's local system log. Whether anonymized crash reports are shared with Apple is controlled by your iOS analytics settings, not by the App.
Children’s Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to This Policy
If the App’s functionality changes in a way that affects your privacy, this policy will be updated and the “Last updated” date revised.
